WATCH: Men pick wrong day to rob cash-in-transit guard

Other suspected cash-in-transit robbers also failed to get away with money on Monday.

Two men recently met their match after allegedly attempting to rob a cash-in-transit guard at a shopping complex, reportedly in Virginia, in the Free State, on Sunday. In a video shared on social media, the men walk away with injuries and fail to take the black case presumably full of cash.

The guard can be seen walking out of a Checkers store and they approach him from a different neighbouring store and try to take the case away from the guard, to no avail.

Gunshots are heard as the guard is seen pointing a firearm at the alleged robbers, who run away from him a bit too late.

One of the robbers can be seen limping while trying to get away.

The video has left South Africans amused, with YamkeleSodwele saying: “Job well done by this officer. These thugs deserved it. They are still amateurs. How can you shoot someone with a bullet proof [vest] on, on the body instead of the head. They got served. Hope and wish the officer is not injured,” while ThabangNtshela said: “I enjoy seeing such videos where criminals don’t get away with crime.”

In another incident, at least two suspected robbers were arrested on Monday following a cash-in-transit heist in the Western Cape.

A CIT vehicle was ambushed and robbed by a group of armed men, said the SAPS.

“The suspects stole an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on the R44 but as they reached Cloetesville they were cornered by members of the SAPS who were responding to this robbery. A shootout ensued but the brazen suspects abandoned their vehicle in front of Cloetesville police station and jumped into a police van and sped off.”

However, during a hot pursuit, the suspects lost control of the police vehicle and crashed. They abandoned the damaged police vehicle and continued to flee on foot in different directions.

Two suspects were in custody, while a search for the other suspects continued.

Police recovered two assault rifles, a revolver, and a bag with money.
