WATCH: Eyewitness account of the mob attack on alleged kidnappers

A member of the public allegedly saw the suspects kidnap the girl and bundle her into a vehicle.

An angry mob allegedly beat a man to death and critically injured a second man after accusing the pair of kidnapping a young schoolgirl in the Pinetown CBD.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said an eyewitness had allegedly seen the girl being kidnapped and bundled into a vehicle before the mob violence broke out, Highway Mail reported.

“The incident occurred near the vicinity of the Pinetown taxi rank. The men allegedly tied the girl’s hands and bundled her into the boot of their car,” he said.

“When the men realised the mob was onto them, they tried to flee the scene, but the mob caught up with them and started hitting the men with bricks,” Mathios said.

According to the eyewitness, the mob had pursued the men, shouting “kill him! kill him!”.

“One of the men died at the scene, and a second was critically injured and transported to hospital,” Mathios said.

Mathios said the mob also tried to set the second man alight.

Pinetown police responded to the scene of the crime.

“The school girl was rescued and immediately taken to the Pinetown police station,” Mathios said.
