Two brothers, with the help of a vet from Bapsfontein in Ekurhuleni, darted and caught a leopard on a plot just outside Kempton Park on Monday, Kempton Express reports.
The animal – after being safely captured after four hours – was transported to a place of safety.
Derrick Dercksen, who lives on a smallholding on the R25 about 5km outside Kempton Park, shared various videos of the incident on social media.
Dercksen said: “l first spotted the leopard as it crossed the road in front of me as l was leaving my property. The leopard climbed into a tree and l decided to do something about it. After phoning around, l finally got hold of a vet who agreed to dart the animal. My brother Jacob also arrived.”

The video shows the animal was cornered near some buildings on the property. The vet darted the cat, after which it charged straight at him. Luckily there was a fence between them which saved the vet from serious harm.
The leopard took off after running into the fence and was found among buildings on the property.
Dercksen posted on Facebook the leopard had been in the area for some time and that authorities were aware of it.
It is still unknown where the animal escaped from, but it could have been from the Bapsfontein area.
