Two arrested in connection with Umgeni Park house burglary

Several items, believed to be stolen, were recovered from a suspect searched on Chris Hani Road and another one at a home in a nearby informal settlement.

TWO suspects, believed to be linked to a house burglary on Chicks Drive in Umgeni Park were arrested on Monday morning (April 15) through a collaborative effort between Greenwood Park SAPS Trio Crimes Unit and Marshall Security.

The break-in occurred at 05:00, and items, including two Apple MacBooks, a Canon camera, shoes and a handbag, were stolen.

According to Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell, both the SAPS and the company acted on information received from members identifying a suspect carrying a backpack, walking on Chris Hani Road (North Coast Road) in the Briardene area.

“Members stopped the suspect and conducted a search during which they discovered and identified the stolen two Apple MacBooks and Canon camera which were positively identified as the items stolen from the housebreaking. Upon questioning the suspect about how he came to be in possession of these items, the suspect revealed that he received them from an individual in the Briardene Informal Settlement and offered to lead members to him.

“Members proceeded to the location indicated by the suspect. Following their investigation at the premises, they managed to apprehend another suspect who was found in possession of the remaining stolen items from the housebreaking. A further search of the informal dwelling yielded in recovering a laptop and an iPad, which the suspect could not account for,” he explained.
