27 arrested for drunk driving in Durban North, uMhlanga operations
One of the motorists arrested in the roadblocks had a blood alcohol concentration 10 times over the legal limit.
A TOTAL of 27 motorists were arrested for drunk driving on Friday night (March 27) in operations in Durban North and uMhlanga.
According to law enforcement, one of the motorists arrested had a blood alcohol concentration 10 times over the legal limit.
The roadblocks formed part of the #NenzaniLaEzweni Operation announced by MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma last week.

As part of the operations, more than 3 400 law enforcement officers have been deployed across the province for the Easter Holidays and Passover long weekend.
“Last night, 27 motorists, including four females, were arrested. The oldest motorist arrested is aged 58, and the youngest is 21,” MEC Duma said.
“In order to ensure successful prosecution, RTI is following the criminal procedure act by working with nurses deployed by Durban Metro Police and the KZN Department of Health. Our message has not changed and is very clear: drink and drive and earn yourself a criminal record.”
The MEC added that there will be more than 145 multidisciplinary roadblocks and more than 115 speed operations in high accident zones during this period.

KwaZulu-Natal is one of six provinces that has recorded a decrease in road fatalities from the beginning of the year until March 15 (compared to the same period in 2025).
