“It’s my story but it is inspired” says My Miriam Makeba Story singer.

Sima Mashazi and Ramon Alexander come together to perform the My Miriam Makeba Story at Aardklop Festival.

Sima says that this show came as a result of a musical (Mama Africa) that she was performing in. She played the role of Miriam Makeba. According to her, the experience was great as it was something new for her to be on stage and tell a story through acting. “I thought that it would be nice to share that experience, to share what I learned… but by being Sima the singer, herself, telling the story, and singing more than acting,” she says.

She says that she realised that she could relate to some of the life experiences that Miriam also went through. Sima says, “It’s me telling my experience of Miriam Makeba… I am Sima who says that I have learned more about Miriam than I knew. I wish more of us knew what I now know about her life. We talk about triumphs and losses,” Sima says.

According to Ramon there is a lot of emotion present in their performance, and they are excited about the performance.
