Police refuse bribe on discovery of drug laboratory

A police officer refused a bribe of R60 000 when he discovered what appeared to be a drug laboratory in Boons near Rustenburg.

A police officer refused a bribe of R60 000 when he discovered what appeared to be a drug laboratory in Boons near Rustenburg.

A 54-year-old woman who owns the property where the lab was discovered was arrested while attempting to bribe the police.

The police were on a routine rural safety patrol.  They stopped at one of the farms in Boons where they found the gate locked. According to information, they noticed two men running away from the farm.

The police managed to gain entry onto the farm where they discovered that drug manufacturing activities were taking place. Drugs were found still being cooked on stoves sludge also various drums containing drugs was found.The police also found drugs suspected to be mandrax as well as other chemicals utilized to manufacture drugs, all with an estimated street value of over R8 million.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Koster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 14 October charged with Contravention of Section 3 (manufacture and Supply of scheduled substances) and Section 5 (dealing in drugs) of Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act, 1992 (Act No.140 of 1992).
North West Community Safety and Transport Management MEC Dr Mokgantshang Mpho Motlhabane commended SAPS for the tremendous work in particular for refusing bribe.

“You have done a sterling work and we want to applaud you for this. We must clean the province, these people are destroying our society now we must make their planning very difficult.

“We must suffocate these criminals to death and they must know that they don’t have space in the province,” said Dr Motlhabane.

Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane also lauded members for their efforts and determination in the fight against drug related crimes that are ruining the future of the youth. She said that the police are determined to intensify the fight against crime and any other illegal activities including drug laboratories like this one.
