Argument over food leads to triple murder

The glorious Easter Sunday in the Ventersdorp community came to an abrupt end when a woman (28) was arrested for allegedly murdering her boyfriend (35), his ex-girlfriend (35) and the ex-girlfriend’s unborn child.

The glorious Easter Sunday in the Ventersdorp community came to an abrupt end when a woman (28) was arrested for allegedly murdering her boyfriend (35), his ex-girlfriend (35) and the ex-girlfriend’s unborn child.

Maria Meko, the suspect, appeared in the Ventersdorp Magistrates’ court on Tuesday and is expected to appear again on 11 April for a bail application. She allegedly committed these atrocious deeds in Tshing township.
According to Lt-Col Amanda Funani, the NW police spokesperson, Maria was arrested after allegedly stabbing the victims with a knife.
Funani explained how the story unfolded. ‘The boyfriend’s child had come to visit him at Maria’s place. The man later left the house and left the child in Maria’s care.
The ex-girlfriend allegedly went to Maria’s place to fetch her child and expressed her unhappiness upon finding that Maria had fed him. The child’s father, who had followed his ex-girlfriend to Maria’s place, found the two women embroiled in a fight.
He intervened and attempted to separate the pair but Maria allegedly stabbed them both with a knife. The ex-girlfriend, who was pregnant at the time of the incident, also lost her unborn child,’ Funani reported.
She says a passer-by had notified the police, who reacted swiftly. Maria was arrested and charged with three counts of murder.
The North West acting provincial commissioner, Maj.-Genl Ryno Naidoo condemned the incident. He said it was unnecessary and senseless for people to lose their lives in this way.
He continues to encourage members of the community to strive to solve their differences amicably.
