Two cases of statutory rape have been opened in the Ikageng police station after two girls went missing from their homes.
The 14-year-old was missing from 24 March to 5 April and the 15-year-old, for almost three months.
According to Sgt Kelebogile Trom, the Ikageng police spokesperson, the 14-year-old’s mother says her daughter left home without her consent. Twelve days later, it came to light that she had been staying with her 21-year-old boyfriend. ‘She took the girl to the clinic where they advised her to report the matter to the police,’ says Trom.
Ten days after this incident, the mother of the 15-year-old found her daughter in Baipei, Sonderwater. She had been missing from home since 17 January.
‘The mother alleges that she left for school and never came back. She was found in April, under the influence of drugs and dagga in a shack with eight other people of both sexes. ‘According to the mother, she was disoriented and did not make any sense. The males tried to stop her from removing her child but she took her home by force. She later took her to the hospital and called the police. A 32-year-old man is a suspect in the case of statutory rape that has been opened,’ says Trom
