Update on water contamination allegations
The Executive Mayor had a meeting with community representatives yesterday, 20 May 2022 on what needs to be done in the affected areas.

According to a statement released by the JB Marks Local Municipality, it is confirmed that, despite accusations made yesterday, 19 May 2022, the municipality is currently providing water to affected areas with water tankers. “We have solicited assistance from ALS, who will also be providing more water tankers to help the community,” the statement read. The municipality further added that they are prioritizing areas where there are preparations for funerals, clinics and schools.
The reservoir in the affected area is being cleaned in order to fill it with drinking water that is safe and clean for consumption. To ensure the safety of the people, the municipality says they will ensure all measures are taken pending test results. On Monday, 23 May 2022, the final Laboratory Tests Results should be released, and these will be made available as soon as they are released.

In the meantime, all water tankers will continue driving around, providing people at various points until the reservoir gets filled to the required level and the water safety is guaranteed.
“We apologise to the public for all the inconvenience caused by the situation,” the statement read.
