Municipal employee speaks out about “poor service delivery”
A municipal employee, who asked to remain anonymous, said it was disheartening to read articles about how the municipality delivers poor services when, in fact, they are onsite daily, trying to clear the vast number of illegal dumping sites within Potchefstroom.
Not a week goes by without community members complaining about the poor service delivery they continue to receive from the J.B. Marks Local Municipality, despite paying their taxes.
A municipal employee, who asked to remain anonymous, said it was disheartening to read articles about how the municipality delivers poor services when, in fact, they are onsite daily, trying to clear the vast number of illegal dumping sites within Potchefstroom.
Mohau Molefe* is employed to clear illegal dumping sites. He argues that they do their job, but community members fail to cooperate. On Sunday, 29 May, the municipality cleaned a few dumping sites in Ikageng. Mohau is sure that if one were to go out and check, it would seem like nothing was ever done.

Mohau says although it depends on the size of the dumping site, they often try to clean each one within a day. “It doesn’t take long before residents start dumping again, despite us placing bins there for them to use,” he said. “They are the very people who run to the media to complain but are quick to create the mess.”
Mohau wants community members to know that they are doing their job; it would help if the community also cooperated.
The Herald asked the municipality for comment but had received none by the time of going to print.
