NWU Divaco from Potchefstroom was thrilled to put on a show again after Covid. On 27 August, they presented their annual main production, and the feedback was phenomenal.

Samuel Jumat, an NWU/Divaco alumnus and professional writer, wrote the show and flew in specifically to accommodate the cast on 12–14 August 2022.

The event happened in the Sanlam Auditorium. This was the first time Divaco had appeared on such a large stage. The outcome of the play surprised and delighted many of the university’s art directors and staff. Approximately 150 people attended the show and thoroughly enjoyed it.

“ The play is called “Hello and Koebaai”, a mixture of drama, poetry, dance and choral,” Corné Hornimann, Divaco choral management, explained. “It plays out in Cape Town – where the root of Divaco lies. It showcases the staples of Cape Town – the beautiful views, the traditions of its people and their culture.”

The plot is about three groups of people, each with their own troubles in life. They are invited to Cape Town to figure out their problems and fix them with food prepared by a 5-star chef. They were told that the treatment they would get would be 5-star, but ultimately, it was not. At the end of the play, all of it is a scam, but the people leave happy because their problems are fixed after all.
