Residents deal with ongoing sewage for three years

Residents in Robert Street, Promosa, have had to deal with a terrible sewage issue on and off since before Covid.
According to Kaylene van Rooyen, a resident close to the source, the smell often gets so bad that you can smell it from inside your house. “It gets worse on hot days, and one can’t sit outside to cool down because of the horrible smell,” she lamented.
Van Rooyen added that since the issue started, she has never seen people from the municipality at the site to resolve the matter.

According to the acting municipal spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite, the sewer spillage along Robert Street in Promosa is due to insufficient capacity at the Robert Street sew-er pump station.
“The municipality is in the process of finalising the appointment of professional service providers for detailed investigations on long-term mitigation,” she said.
She added that this would be helpful as the pump station had been experiencing continuous breakdowns. Visually, the sewage is currently unnoticeable due to the grass surrounding its location, but the smell seems to be getting worse as time goes on.
