Senior wellness celebrated at NWU

Staff at the NWU Philosophy Department held a special event at the Heimat Hall of the NWU Potchefstroom Campus for the elderly of Ikhayalethu Village in Ikageng.

Staff at the NWU Philosophy Department held a special event at the Heimat Hall of the NWU Potchefstroom Campus for the elderly of Ikhayalethu Village in Ikageng.

The main aim of the event that was held on Friday, 8 December, was to foster connections for senior wellness. Mrs Sarah Mthombeni was the organiser of the event.

Residents of Ikhayalethu Village enjoyed every moment of this event, where they were treated to a scrumptious breakfast and traditional dancing from the Dance Maitiso Project.

Theodorah Modise, a lecturer in nutrition at the Faculty of Health Sciences spoke on the importance of food safety and hygiene, and nutritional guidelines for older adults.

Dr André Goodrich spoke on the importance of fostering relationships with the elderly and emphasised the important role they have in communities.

Prof Jean Du Toit and Dr Yolandi Coetzer from the Philosophy Department also spoke to the audience in attendance.
