Spinning car show lights up Potchefstroom

Experience the high-octane thrills of the Spinning Car Show at Potchefstroom's CSA Arena.

The quiet streets of Potchefstroom were anything but calm on Sunday, November 3, as the CSA (Central Sports Arena) hosted its highly anticipated Spinning Car Show, a high-octane event that attracted car enthusiasts, adrenaline junkies, and thrill-seekers from across the region. With a cloud of smoke billowing from the burning rubber of spinning tires, spectators were treated to an electrifying display of car control and skill.

The air was thick with the sound of revving engines, screeching tires, and cheers from an excited crowd, eager to witness the spectacular stunts. Local resident and avid car enthusiast Cheslin Faaltyn, who attended the event, described the atmosphere as “unreal.” “The energy here today is like nothing I’ve ever experienced before in Potchefstroom. It’s not just a show, it’s an event that brings everyone together for the love of cars and speed. The drivers are truly showcasing some insane skill behind the wheel,” Faaltyn said, standing near the edge of the arena as a car spun out in a plume of smoke.

One of the standout performers of the day was Alton Mackay, a local car spinner known for his precise control and impressive maneuvering. Mackay, who has been part of the spinning scene for years, admitted that the adrenaline rush never gets old. “This is what we live for, honestly. The challenge of controlling the car at those speeds, while the tires are screaming for grip… it’s an amazing feeling. I’ve been spinning for over f ive years, and every time I hit that gas pedal, it feels like the first time,” Mackay shared, wiping sweat from his brow after completing a jaw-dropping burnout. As the event continued, spectators were mesmerized by the variety of tricks, including donuts, handbrake turns, and high-speed drifts.

The cars’ engines roared as they raced around the track, creating an intense visual and auditory spectacle. But amidst the excitement, safety was also a top priority for the drivers, who underwent extensive training to master their craft and ensure the wellbeing of both them and the crowd. The event was not only a feast for the senses but also a celebration of the local car culture in Potchefstroom, with many of the drivers being well-known figures in the South African spinning community.

As the sun set on another successful show, attendees reflected on the day’s action-packed thrills. For many, it was an unforgettable experience — a perfect fusion of passion, precision, and pure fun. “Events like these are what keep the spinning culture alive,” said Mackay. “Potchefstroom is showing up, and we’ll be back to do it all again.”
