Ikageng man critical after brutal assault

Ikageng police are investigating an assault case after a 38-year-old man was left in critical condition following a violent assault near a local KFC.

Police in Ikageng are investigating a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm following a violent incident that took place on August 8.
The victim, 38-year-old Thabiso Moerane, is currently in a critical condition in the intensive care unit of Tshepong hospital after sustaining severe head injuries.
Moerane, was assaulted near the KFC in Ikageng. Security personnel reported the incident to the police and called an ambulance. He was initially taken to Potchefstroom Hospital but was quickly transferred to Tshepong Hospital in Klerksdorp due to the seriousness of his injuries.
Moerane was reportedly admitted as an “unknown person” at first. After numerous calls and visits to hospitals, his employer managed to locate him. By that stage, he was unconscious and suffering from bleeding on the brain. Doctors performed emergency brain surgery, followed by a tracheostomy procedure.
Colleagues say that on Saturday, Moerane showed small signs of improvement by opening his right eye for the first time since the incident, but his condition remains critical. According to his employer they don’t believe robbery was a motive as Moerane still had his phone with him when he was admitted.
According to Colonel Adele Myburgh, police spokesperson, the victim has mostly head injuries. She confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.

“Anyone who wants to report a crime can contact their nearest police station, call the crime stop number on 08600 10111 alternatively the MySaps app can be used to report any crimes,” Myburgh said.
