The JB Marks Local Municipality has issued an important notice to all residents regarding the proper process for applying for RDP houses, stressing that application forms are available only through the municipality or developers officially appointed by the Provincial Department of Human Settlements.
In a statement, the municipality cautioned that no individuals or private entities are authorised to distribute application forms. Any offers from unofficial sources should be treated with suspicion and reported immediately.
“All municipal stands earmarked for RDP or other housing developments will be allocated strictly to qualifying beneficiaries, in line with council resolutions,” the statement read.
The municipality also reminded residents that errors involving stand numbers or municipal account statements can only be corrected by the municipality itself. They encouraged anyone encountering such issues to report them through official channels rather than attempting to resolve them independently or through third parties.
JB Marks Local Municipality emphasised its ongoing commitment to fair and equal access to housing, as outlined in the Constitution and the Housing Act. Residents are urged to report any suspected corruption through the proper channels, where such allegations will be thoroughly investigated. However, the municipality warned against spreading false or unverified claims, highlighting that doing so is unlawful.
Officials also noted that they are currently dealing with a range of housing-related challenges. These include cases where more than one person is linked to the same stand number and instances where individuals not residing on a stand wrongfully use its number to register for an RDP house, electricity connection, or other municipal services.
Residents are encouraged to report such cases directly to the municipality or through legal avenues to ensure they are properly investigated and resolved.
“JB Marks Local Municipality remains committed to transparency, accountability and the fair allocation of housing opportunities for all residents,” the statement concluded.
