Water plant breakdown disrupts supply in Ventersdorp

A major breakdown at the Ventersdorp Water Treatment Plant has left parts of the town and Tshing facing water shortages.

The municipality has announced an emergency breakdown at the Water Treatment Plant serving the Ventersdorp area, impacting both the town and Tshing.

According to municipal spokesperson Jeanette Tshite, the municipality has decommissioned the new plant to carry out major mechanical and electrical repairs. In the meantime, water is being supplied through the old plant, which is currently unable to meet the full demand.

“The required replacement parts have been ordered and are expected to arrive on Tuesday, 14 October. Repair work will resume immediately upon their arrival and is anticipated to be completed as soon as possible,” Tshite said.

Residents are urged to use water sparingly during this period to help sustain the limited supply until normal operations are restored.

The municipality has apologised to all affected residents for the inconvenience caused and appealed for their understanding and cooperation while the repairs are being completed.
