Community Safety and crime prevention lies deep at the heart of two Ferdies Grade 9 learners, Faseeha Sooliman and Astelicia Rolls.

These two learners were officially appointed in two prominent roles at part of a SAPS Junior Commisioner Project on Tuesday, February 17 in front of the school with police dignitaries in attendance.

Faseeha was appointed as the junior deputy district commissioner for the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District. Astelicia was appointed as the junior head of visible policing.

The project aims to engage the youth in terms of leadership roles, crime prevention and active community engagement.

“I’m really excited for this role and to do this with Astelicia,” stated Faseeha, smiling from ear to ear.

“It helps us to go out of our comfort zone and to help other kids to improve on what they do as well,” added Astelicia.

Colonel Thabo Mahlangu, Head of Visible Policing in Potchefstroom, mentions that the Junior Commissioner project exposes learners to various areas of employment.

“We are developing them to become future leaders in various areas. It helps them to understand and know the procecess and duties done by the SAPS as an employer. As they grow, they will finish school and join SAPS or any other department with the necessary knowledge and skills. With this programme we prepare their minds to make critical decisions and take accountability,” added Col. Mahlangu.
