Every second and extra metre gained was as good as gold for the athletes at the ACNW Track and Field Championships at the Puk McArthur Stadium on 11-12 March as they gave it their all to qualify for the SA’s.
One of the positive signs was the form of Caster Semenya who achieved her personal best in the 400-metre. Semenya recorded a fantastic time of 51:47 to send a message to her rivals.
Koketso Mogapi also impressed in the men’s long jump where he jumped 7.64 metres while Elroy Gelant once again dominated the men’s 500-metre event with a time of 13:41.72, more than a minute ahead of his nearest challenger. Masters’ hurdles athlete, Shaun Bownes showed that he still has the passion and determination by running a 14.51 to beat Theodor Young (14.58) in a close race. NWU’s Jerry Motsau and Rantso Makopane were also involved in a tight battle in the Men’s 1500-metre.
