The current Momentum One-Day Cup champions, the bizhub Highveld Lions, are on their way to Potchefstroom and two of Senwes Park’s favourite sons will be looking to stamp their authority on the home turf.
Batsmen, Nicky van den Berg and Rassie van der Dussen are well known to North West Dragons fans and, after breathing fire for years, will now want to roar into action when they play against the Cape Cobras at Senwes Park on Friday 10 March.

The Lions got off to the perfect start against the Warriors in their opening match of this year’s competition, with a comprehensive 40 run win at the Wanderers, where Van der Dussen and Van den Bergh both contributed with the bat.
‘It was a great start for us to get our confidence levels up and to get that first match out of the way on a winning note,’ said Van der Dussen, who has played a number of stunning knocks for the Dragons over the years.

Van den Bergh is a born and bred Potchefstroomer and he also finds it special to play at a ground he has known his entire life.
’The Lions always get great support in Potch and people also love supporting the local North West players in the Lions team with special banners on the grass banks. It is a unique atmosphere.’
According to Van der Dussen, he enjoys playing in Potchefstroom as there is always lively crowd support from the fans who truly love their cricket.
‘It is a smaller ground, but that does not make it less special to play here for the Lions in front of passionate supporters. I have also managed to get a few good scores there and there are a lot of good memories in Potch,’ said Van der Dussen.

On a personal level, Van den Bergh would like to transfer his good form with the willow into the longer format (Sunfoil 4-Day series) to the one day format. ‘It has been a relatively successful season for me with the Lions this season. I hope to make some good contributions and make sure we play as a champion team. If the team once again does well, then that increases my chances for further call-ups,’ said an upbeat Van den Bergh.
