The first ever final of the Leopards Women’s  Rugby tournament between Matlosana and Potch Dorp will be remembered for all the right reasons. Matlosana won the match 24-10 and were also the first team in history to lift this trophy on Saturday, 20 May.

It was a fantastic match from the outset with both teams going at it hammer and tongs on Potchefstroom Dorp Rugby Club’s A-field. In the end, the women from Matlosana just had too much in the tank for Potch Dorp. Ferana van Heerden had a fantastic game at inside centre and scored one of Potch Dorp’s tries. Catch Brought, number 8, scored the other try for the team.

At the conclusion of the match, a provisional Leopards Women’s training squad was announced with many ladies bursting from excitement when they heard their names being        called.

‘The final squad will be announced at a later stage,’ said team manager, Henriette Pretorius.

The management team of the Leopards women is Andries Selemela (coordinator), Piet Jordaan (women’s manager), Henriette Pretorius (team manager), Sanet Ludick (head coach), Angelo Jacobs (assistant coach and physiotherapist).

Matlosana’s women celebrate their 24-10 win over Potch Dorp in the Leopards Women’s League final that took place in Potchefstroom on Saturday, 20 May.
