A mixture of aggressive and classy strokeplay in an undefeated 133 run partnership from Temba Bavuma (64 off 85) and Faf du Plessis (77 off 92) put the Proteas firmly in control at lunch on day 4 (Sunday 1 October) in the first test between South Africa and Bangladesh at Senwes Park.

South Africa reached 203/3 after 45 overs at lunch with a lead of 379 runs and will look to extend that to over 400 before sending the Bangladeshi batsman in to face the wrath of Rabada, Morkel and company till the close of play.

The Bangladesh bowlers started the morning session brightly as the picked up the prized wicket of Hashim Amla for 28. The first innings centurion chased a wide sliding delivery from Mushfiqur Rahim and edged behind to leave the Proteas at 70/3.

Bangladesh could have had more joy but Temba Bavuma was dropped on 8 as the SA batsman got a reprieve when Imrul Kayes missed a sharp chance. Kayes also injured his finger in the process to add injury to insult.

Faf du Plessis getting into his stride with a brisk innings as he regularly played some lovely cut shot and flicks off his pads to the boundary. Is knock has so far included 6 fours and 1 six.

Du Plessis really got  into a high gear as he recorded his 15th test fifty for the Proteas at a strike rate of 83.69. Bavuma followed suit with a half-century off his own a few minutes later as the two went to lunch satisfied.
