The 2018 NWU gymnastics squad delivered another flawless performance after claiming first prize at the USSA gymnastics tournament for the second year in a row.
This year, the tournament was held in Cape Town from 2 to 6 July and the team put in some stunning performances mirroring the picturesque Cape landscape.
The two brightest stars were Lindi Anker, who received the Victrix Ludorum award and Joshua Joaquim who won the Victor Ludorum award. The accolades do not stop there for Joaquim who has also qualified for the World Student Games in 2019.
According to Anker, one of the main reasons the NWU gymnasts performed well was the passion that the entire squad has.
‘We are a really talented group who have a real winning mentality. We put in a lot of effort with our preparation and it has truly paid off,’ she said.
In total, the team also took home 39 gold medals, 20 silver medals and 17 bronze medals in the various disciplines. These included artistic, rhythmic, tumbling, mini-tramp and black top respectively.
