The NWU made it two wins on the trot in the 2018 Varsity Netball competition after a superb 81-73 victory against the defending champions Tuks tonight in Bloemfontein.

Elsunet du Plessis’ charges played a brilliant attacking game, where vice-captain, Monique Reyneke stood out with numerous interceptions in a fantastic defensive display together with youngster and former Potch Gimmie, Leonie Maree.

The NWU were in control of the game leading each quarter with Protea star, Sigi Burger and goal attack, Jessica du Plessis in fine form in front of goal, taking their opportunities with aplomb. Their 91 per cent shooting average was a true testament to this.

Tuks though also had a strong shooting percentage throughout with Ina-Marie Venter also banging in the goals when she has the chance.

The NWU though were the better and more fluid team on the night and deserve to top the log after the first round of matches in this year’s tournament. Yesterday evening, the NWU opened up their account with a 77-27 dismantling of UJ and will be confident after seeing off the defending champions.

Tuks on the other hand are left winless after two matches and will need to step up their game if they are to defend their crown.

“We just played our own game today against Tuks. It is really great to start the weekend of with two wins,” said Jessica du Plessis, who was also named the player of the match.
