“The plan is to finish the fight in the first round again as I did in my previous two fights. But I am comfortable if the fight goes the distance,”
These are the words of a man who is full of confidence that he will extend his winning streak to three fights at Carnival City on Saturday (28 September).
Roevan de Beer, Potchefstroom’s only professional mixed martial arts athlete will square off with the experienced Themba Mkhize from Durban.
“It is a good test for me because he is also a veteran of the sport,” said de Beer.
According to him he has not approached the preparation for this fight any differently although a win on Saturday at Carnival City will move him into the upper tier of the EFC bantamweight division.
“I just carried on doing what I did for my previous fight,” he said.
Mkhize is known for his dangerous striking abilities. De Beer will be well aware of the dangers posed by Mkhize’s striking. Both of de Beer’s last opponents were also dangerous strikers.
“I have to thank everyone for their continuous support, my sponsors, Team Daly and MFG, who make my life as a professional athlete much easier. My wife, my teammates at CGA and obviously my heavenly father who gave me the talent to be able to compete,” he said.
