Everything went as exactly the way Roevan de Beer, professional MMA fighter, predicted.

Last week de Beer told the Herald that he was looking to finish his fight with Themba Mkhize at EFC 82 in Carnival City in the first round.

On Saturday (28 September) he made good on his promise. He won the fight by way of a spectacular knockout. Something that not many would have predicted given his prowess on the ground. De Beer’s victory heralded in a new era in his career. Not only did he emphatically show that he has dangerous knockout power on top of a very high level of wrestling and submissions, but he has also now moved into the top tier of the EFC (Extreme Fighting Championship).

“I knew if my overhand and left hook connected that he would be out. After a few shots that landed I figured he would go down, I could see even the slight shots bothered him,” De Beer said.

Many were surprised when he did not carry on raining down punches as Mkhize went down. According to De Beer he could see that Themba Mkhize was out and it wouldn’t be necessary for ground and pound.

What’s next for the local fighter riding a high on a three-fight win streak?

“Maybe two more fights then the title. I’ll have to wait and see. If it comes, it comes, if it doesn’t that’s also fine,” said De Beer.
