Dragons batter bags three awards in one week

“I wanted to make a difference and stand out and I believe I did so, by scoring the only 100 in both formats,”

One of the most consistent performers in the North West Dragons women’s set-up, Tazmin Brits, has once again shown why she is one of the leading lady batters in the country.
Brits was awarded the Cricket South Africa (CSA) women’s provincial player of the year and scooped the NW Cricket Women’s Batter and Player of the Year this week. Brits shares the Player of the Year title with her teammate, Anneke Bosch.
“It’s a great feeling to receive an award like that, knowing all the hard work I put in actually paid off. Yes, it was by far one of my best seasons.
“I wanted to make a difference and stand out and I believe I did so, by scoring the only 100 in both formats,” she said.
“The CSA award was massive for me as it motivated me to set higher goals and made me hungrier than ever to stand out,” adds Brits.
There is not much that can keep her down; she has had to battle setbacks in her life, whether a car accident that halted her athletics career or the lack of cricket due to the lockdown.
“I see the lockdown as a positive, to be honest. A person has time for themselves to train and reset goals and see what’s more important. With a busy day-to-day life, a person never gets time to sit and think and work on things. I gym and go for runs and have a lot of time on my hands to improve myself,” adds a defiant Brits.
Even though there was disappointment at not making the Proteas women T20 World Cup squad in 2020, Brits keeps moving forward with hopes of improving herself at the sport and also looking at coaching in the long-term.
“Once I retire, I want to coach full time as I have a passion for sports and people. I want to help and make a difference in someone’s life, where I can.”
