ACNW athletes put their best foot forward with 21 medals at SA Cross Country champs

One of the stars of the show for ACNW was young Rubin Essakow, who bagged two gold medals.

The cross-country athletes of Athletics Central North West (ACNW) took the long road to Amanzimtoti last weekend (17–18 September) where they showed their mettle at the ASA Cross Country Championships.

ACNW won 21 medals in total, nine individual and 12 team ones. In the individual category, ACNW won 1 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze medals. In the team events, they won 1 gold, 3 silver and 8 bronze.

One of the stars of the show for ACNW was young Rubin Essakow, who bagged two gold medals. He took gold in the Boys 8 1 km race in 4 minutes and 14 seconds and also won gold with his teammates, Kago Sheba, Dawid van der Linde and Janco Procter.

Tedrich Hattingh (Boys 9) also continued his sparkling form this year with a silver in the 2 km race, coming in at a time of 08:09.

Kago Senwadi also picked up two silver medals in the individual and team races. Danielle Verster of Gimmies took home two silver medals too, in the Women’s u.23 category.

The experienced quartet of Thabang Mosiako, Tumelo Motlagale, Ian Slinger and Boikanyo Tikologo also bagged bronze in a competitive Men’s 10 km race.
