Leopards captain celebrates century with big win

Leopards captain Siya Mdaka, celebrated his 100th game for the Leopards with a big win over the undefeated Valke.

Leopards captain Siya Mdaka, celebrated his 100th game in the Currie Cup with a big win over the undefeated Valke.

Robert Kruger who rejoined the Leopards this season also celebrated his 50th game for the green and red.

It was a big win for the Leopards who desperately needed a win on Saturday. The final score was 25 – 15. The Leopards had the home ground advantage which they used to devastating effect.

Especially in the first half the Leopards were once again the defensive powerhouse that they are known to be.

“We needed this win, because the team works hard. We are happy overall, there is more hard work to be done. So we are taking it game for game,” said André Pretorius, head coach of the Leopards.

According to him on the attack there are still some niggles.

“There are times where we see the opportunity but the guys don’t call for the ball, or one guy who has to pass but keeps it then we give them another ruck. Although our decision making on the field is getting better,” he said.

Ruben du Plessis, Tiaan van der Merwe and Pienaar van Niekerk all scored for the Leopards.

Their next game is another home fixture versus the Eastern Province who are currently top of the Promotion log.
