It was an even contest between bat and ball during day 1 of the CSA 4 Day Challenge match between the North West Dragons and the Lions at the JB Mark’s Oval.
The Lions scored 224/5 after 74.3 overs thanks to a solid half-century from Dominic Hendricks (89 off 161 balls) as well as a well played 45 (70) from Proteas batsman, Rassie van der Dussen.
The Lions were cruising on 133/1 at one stage but the Dragons got back into the match thanks to Renaldo Meyer (1/43) who had Van der Dussen caught behind.
A couple of wickets fell with Ryan Rickelton and Mitchell van Buuren going back to the dressing room for low scores. Senuran Muthusamy (2/59) picked up their wickets.
Delano Potgieter got the big scalp of Hendricks, caught behind down the leg side.
It was a fortuitous wicket as Hendricks can feel unlucky with a ball he would have stroked to the boundary nine times out of ten.
