Dragons batsmen succumb to Dolphins’ web of spin

The match only lasted three days, as the Dragons batsmen were skittled out for 173 all out in the first innings, before failing in the follow-on as they were dismissed for only 104 all out at Kingsmead in Durban.

Two poor batting performances resulted in the North West Dragons going down to the Dophins by an innings and 71 runs in the CSA 4-Day Challenge this past week in Durban.

The match only lasted three days, as the Dragons batsmen were skittled out for 173 all out in the first innings, before failing in the follow-on as they were dismissed for only 104 all out at Kingsmead in Durban.

The Dolphins spinners dominated the Dragons batsmen with Prenelan Subrayen picking up match figures of 8-89. Jon-Jon Smuts also added to the Dolphins’ delight and Dragons’ misery with match figures of 9-106.

The Dolphins batted first and scored 348 all out in 114.1 overs. Jason Smith made 136 (248) with Khaya Zondo showing his class with a knock of 79 (185). Eldred Hawken 4/34 was the pick of the Dragons bowlers.

JP King made his debut for the Dragons and was one of the bright sparks. He top scored for his team in the first innings with 33 (103) and also picked up a couple of wickets with his off-spin bowling.

The Dragons next face the Titans in their final 4-day match at Supersport Park in Centurion from 12-15 March.
