Proteas set to face Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka in Super Six stage

As group winners, SA they will face Zimbabwe on Wednesday, 31 January and Sri Lanka on Friday, 2 February.

The Super Six stage of the 2024 u.19 Cricket World Cup is set to thrill spectators as the competition heats up for the four coveted semi-final spots.

Hosts, South Africa secured top spot in group B with a brilliant 7-wicket demolition of Scotland in their final group game at the J.B. Marks Oval on Saturday, 27 January.

Proteas u.19 opener, Steve Stolk hit a blistering 86 (37 balls) as well as fastest 50 in u.19 Cricket World Cup history off just 13 balls.

Dewan Marais also smashed a commanding 80 (50 balls) as the Proteas remarkably chased down 269 runs in only 27 overs.

South Africa will take confidence from this performance heading into the Super Six stage where they are in group 2 together with England, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Australia and Zimbabwe.

As group winners, SA they will face Zimbabwe on Wednesday, 31 January and Sri Lanka on Friday, 2 February. Both matches will take place in Potchefstroom, which will suit the hosts, who do not have to travel to other venues in SA during this stage of the tournament.

South Africa will carry two points into the Super Six stage after topping group B. Teams carry forward points and net run-rate accumulated against the two other teams progressing from the same original group.

Australia for instance will start the group on four points, due to winning all their games in the original group phase.

The top two teams out of each Super Six group will qualify for the semi-finals. In group 1, India and Pakistan look like early favourites to make it to the last four. New Zealand and Bangladesh will want to also stake a claim in group 1.

The semi-finals (6 and 8 February) and final (11 February) will be played at Willowmoore Park in Benoni.
