Photos: Maloi and Mokoto take honours at PMSC Awards

Sgt Tshwarelo Maloi (road running) and Pte Gadi Mokoto (Bowls) were the standout achievers in an excellent 2023 season the the club.

The 2023 Potchefstroom Military Sports Club (PMSC) awards highlighted sporting excellence in various codes at the Elgro Hotel on Friday, 26 January.

The PMSC Sportsman of the Year award went to Sgt Tshwarelo Maloi for Road Running and Cross-Country Running. The PMSC Sportswoman of the Year award went to Pte Gadi Mokoto for Bowls.

Maloi took first place as a Veteran at the ASA Cross country championships, won a silver medal at the Comrades Marathon in a time of 7 hours and 20 minutes and frequently reached the podium in various championships.

Mokoto also excelled in bowls, being named as a reserve for the Proteas team. She won silver at the SANDF champs and took a superb fourth place at the Mielieland Tournament.

Cyclist Gardi Kriek took the PMSC Sports Veteran of the Year award after a stunning year on two wheels. She took four first places at the SANDF Championships and also gained another winner’s medal at the Tour de Ghaap.

The PSMC Sports Administrator of the Year went to Sgt Mphumzeni Lukhelo from Endurance Walking.

Endurance Walking also won the Sports Club of the Year award.

Sgt Lerato Nthite was named the Sports Official of the Year for her excellent work in soccer. Sgt Julia Shabalala (Bowls) was named the Best Developing Member of the Year.

Shabalala and Mokoto won their second award as the PMSC Sports Team of the Year, after an excellent season as part of the Bowls Pairs team.

They came fourth in the SANDF champions as a pairs team, representing NW. They also managed to gain the gold medal at the Prestige Week with some fantastic tactical play.
