Classic clash is biggest goal for THS Potch

The Herald is doing a series of articles, previewing the different schools' rugby seasons.

The 2024 rugby season for THS Potch will go down as a disappointing one although there is a flicker of light in the sevens format of the game.

THS Potch finished last in their Noordvaal division 4 competition which included, Potch Boys High, THS Klerksdorp, and Zeerust. In the sevens tournament that was held by Ferdinand Postma, the THS Potch team finished in 2nd place.

Even with this little bit of hope it is going to be a hard slog for the THS Potch players in 2025 as Schoonspruit are dropping down to their division. This will make things even more difficult for the Potchefstroomers.

According to rugby organiser, Pieter Oosthuizen, the main focus for this year is the Classic Clash game between Boys High and THS Potch.

“Our goal this year is to beat Boys High in the classic Clash on our home ground.  We have a number of players, who performed well during the sevens tournament that will be useful to the team,” said Oosthuizen.

THS Potch, will need to harness the skill of their sevens players in the 15 man code to be able to be competitive this season. Last year they lost the Classic Clash, 56 – 5, which shows just how much work needs to be done at THS.

It is a challenge that the THS players and coaches will relish especially as division 4 becomes stronger. The Herald looks forward to THS brings in the 2025 season.
