The North-West Dragons and Dolphins are finally locking horns at the J.B. Marks Oval in Potchefstroom today (Monday, 2 February), after the first two days of the CSA 4-Day series division 1 match was abandoned due to a wet outfield.
The Dragons won the toss and chose to bowl first, which seems to be the right decision as they took four wickets in the first session to leave the Dolphins on 102/4 at lunch.
The Dragons have put in a disciplined bowling performance lead by the experienced Alfred Mothoa who has taken 2/20 in 7 overs. Mothoa bowled Tshepang Dithole for 13, after a misjudged leave. He got Slade van Staden out for a duck caught behind soon after. Meeka-eel Prince took a superb one-handed catch to his right.

One of the highlights for the Dragons was the first-class debut of Callie Fryer at the age of 17. This Hoërskool Rustenburg star has shown his pace at school level and will also represent the SA u.19 team later this month.
Fryer got his opportunity with the wicket of Romashan Pillay (34 from 70 balls) in his first over. Fryer took no time to announce himself as he troubled Dolphins batter, Bryce Parsons. Parsons nicked the first delivery through the slips before the second ball hit him on his arm.
After eventually getting off strike, it was up to Pillay to face Fryer, who steamed in with loads of energy. Fryer’s first wicket was a beauty that shaped in late as Pillay was cleaned bowl without playing at the ball.
Dian Forrester (1/16) got the wicket of Parsons (24) as the Dragons kept the momentum until lunch.
