Dragons demolish Dolphins in Durban

The Dragons were too good for the Dolphins as they completed a clinical 134-run win to move into playoff contention in the CSA 1-Day Cup.

The North-West Dragons returned to winning ways with a commanding 134-run win against the Dolphins at Kingsmead this evening (Saturday, March 14) in the CSA 1-Day Cup.

The Dragons dismissed their opposition for only 138 as their total of 272/8 proved too much. The match-winners for the Dragons with the ball were Onke Nyaku with 4/32 and Caleb Seleka with 4/23. The Dragons kept it tight from ball one and never gave the Dolphins any chance of mounting a comeback.

The same can not be said of the Dolphins who had the visitors on 125/5. Former SA u19 star, Tristan Luus, bowled well for the hosts picking up figures of 2/43, whilst Jon-Jon Smuts showed his experience with economical figures of 1/34 in 10 overs.

The Dragons fought back thanks to Lesiba Ngoepe and Ruan de Swardt’s 125-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

Ngoepe scored a brisk 88 (68 balls) which included 11 fours and two sixes. De Swardt also struck a solid 48 (44 balls) that consisted of three fours and a six. This laid the platform for the win as the Dragons kept the momentum with the ball in hand.

The Dragons next face Western Province in a home game on Thursday, March 19 at the JB Marks Oval.
