A mix of youth and experience highlights the three new signings that the North Wert Dragons have made ahead of upcoming 2026/27 Division 1 season.
A key signing is the addition of the experienced pace bowler, Daryn Dupavillon, from the KZN Inland Tuskers.
Dupavillon is most well-known domestically for his time at the Durban-based Dolphins as well as his exploits for the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20.
The 31-year-old, who has two ODI caps for the Proteas to his name, brings experience and a fiery hunger to the Dragons.
Another exciting signing is that Mthiwekhaya Nabe, a 30-year-old pace bowler from Western Province. Juan James also makes his return to the Dragons, having previously played there for a season. The all-rounder, joins his brother Paul, who is also part of the Dragons setup as a high-performance recruit.
Other high-performance players include, Lutendo Tsanwani, Nealan van Heerden and Callie Fryer, a matriculant from Rustenburg High School.

The former Volkies Potch star, Ludwich Schuld, receives a rookie contract after impressing in the past season in the white ball formats.
Wihan Lubbe will once again lead the NW Dragons as captain for the season. The key players this season include batsman and player of the season for last season, Rubin Hermann, as well as all-rounder, Dian Forrester. They are both players of national interest to Cricket South Africa (CSA).
The Dragons will also look to Meeka-eel Prince, Onke Nyaku, Ruan de Swardt and Lesiba Ngoepe to continue building from last season’s good form.
Three players have made exits from the Dragons including, Thobile Hlatuka (Mpumalanga), Janneman Malan (SWD) and Migael Pretorius (Somerset Country Cricket Club).
North West Cricket Chief Executive Officer, Tommy Phiri, believes the organisation is entering an exciting period of growth and competitiveness.
“There is a growing belief within the organisation that this team has the quality, character, and determination to compete strongly in Division 1. We have assembled a squad that represents the values of the Dragons, and we are excited about what lies ahead,” said Phiri.
Head Coach Craig Alexander echoed those sentiments, highlighting the depth and competitiveness within the squad.
“Creating healthy and honest competition within the squad is vital, and we believe this group has the depth and quality to push each other to higher standards. The environment we are building is one where players challenge each other every day to become better cricketers and better professionals.”
Alexander further emphasised the need to bring back silverware this coming season.
“We are genuinely excited about what lies ahead and believe this squad has what it takes to add silverware to the cabinet. The players have shown tremendous commitment, and we look forward to seeing them showcase their abilities throughout the season.”
