Potch’s top underwater hockey players are going to represent South Africa at the 2026 World Underwater Hockey Age Group Championships from July 18-25 in Gebze, Turkiye.
Konia Steyn, Ruané Steyn and Tiaan Slabbert, who are all part of the Potch Sub-Aqua Underwater Hockey Club, will represent their nation in their respective age group teams against the top countries around the world.
Konia Steyn, the vice-captain of the Women’s U24 team, states that the team is mentally prepared to succeed at the Worlds.
“I am excited and a bit nervous. We did a lot of hard work. So, I am sure it will be successful,” she stated.
Her sister-in-law, Ruané will also represent her country at her second world championships.
“Team cohesion is great and we are strong outside of the water as well. It is because we are a family in and outside of the pool. We are invested in each other’s growth inside and outside of hockey.”
Tiaan Slabbert, believes that the men’s teams can also bring back medals.
“I am very confident on my skills and I have been working on my fitness even more leading up to the Championships, so that I am at the top of my game.”
JD Aucamp and Pamela Mackor will also represent Potch in a coaching and management capacity for the South African team.
