NMS accounting teacher named Capricorn South’s best

Abdul Aziz Khan Patel (78) helped Northern Muslim School attain a 100% pass rate in last year’s NSC exam and all his Gr 12 learners passed with flying colours.

POLOKWANE – Veteran teacher Abdul Aziz Khan Patel from Northern Muslim School recently received the best teacher in accounting award at the Department of Education’s Capricorn District South Teachers Awards held in Polokwane on March 3.

The 78-year-old mentor helped Northern Muslim School to attain a 100% pass rate in last year’s matric exam. All his matric learners in his accounting class passed with flying colours.

“Since 2005 the school achieved a 100% pass rate in accounting under my tutelage. I love what I do, teaching is a passion and the results are just testimony of that.”

Patel started teaching in 1969 at the then Pietersburg Indian and Coloured School which is now known as Taxila Secondary School after completing his teaching diploma at the Johannesburg College of Education in Johannesburg.

While teaching at Taxila he enrolled for a B.Com (Hons) degree at the University of South Africa.

After completion he was appointed as the principal of the school.

“I had a good time at Taxila. Most of the learners I taught are doing well. Some are captains of industries, professionals and various spheres of economy.”

He says students should do what gives them bliss in order to succeed in life and excel in their career path.
