Death of Sue Robinson
WELL-known Toti estate agent, Elizabeth Sue Robinson died peacefully on 11 November after a brave battle against cancer.
The only child of Bert and Olive Pearce, she grew up on the Illovo Sugar Estate, founded by her grandfather, William Pearce. The old family home, Eden, became the Illovo Club.
Sue’s mom, Ollie, taught at Warner Beach Primary for many years and Sue herself was schooled there and at Epworth.
Sue spent most of her life in the Toti area where she and her friend, Sandy Vorster ran Take 5 music shop in Victory Centre. They gained control of the most popular modern offerings from the industry and the best clubs in Durban had to buy their music in Warner Beach.
Sue also owned Pipeline Surfwear in the Kingsburgh Centre and supplied most locals and holidaymakers with the latest surf brand T-shirts, baggies and bikinis. She spent the last 20-odd years as an estate agent, first with Norman Mason and then Pam Golding Estates.
Her chief interests were fishing with her husband Mike, and avidly supporting the national rugby, sevens, soccer and cricket sides. She was a great Ernie Els fan.
Her warmth, generosity and kindness to all who met her will always be remembered. She liked a good party with friends and had a ready laugh and radiant smile. She fought courageously right to the end – with her nails still painted and her lipstick on.
She will be sorely missed by her husband, Mike, her children Lara and Dean and her stepchildren Debbie, Brent and Garth.
