Light up Khanya’s tree of light

It is the time of the year again when one of Khanya Hospice’s major fundraisers, the Tree of Light, is lit up.

The Tree of Light originated in the UK and the idea was first introduced to South Africa in Cape Town in 1990. “The Tree of Light is an event with a tremendous amount of emotion and fond remembering,” said Khanya Hospice CEO, Neil McDonald.

“People are invited to buy a globe for R30, in memory of a loved one who has died. It could be a mother, father, brother, sister, child, grandparents or a beloved dog or cat. December is a special time of the year when people remember their loved ones, who not are here to enjoy Christmas with them.”

The Tree of Light will be switched on at a ceremony at Umkomaas Primary School on Tuesday, 3 December at 6pm. There will be carols by candlelight and choirs will perform. Light bulbs will also be on sale that evening at the school.

If you have a loved one who you would like to remember in this beautiful and touching tribute, contact Khanya Hospice on 039-973-0403/1723 or 083-597-8985 or purchase a globe at any of the Hospice shops in Toti, Scottburgh and Pennington.

The Tree of Light will also be on display at Khanya Hospice’s three-day fair from 6 December on the DSB Grounds in Craigieburn and globes can also be purchased there.
