Stolen bakkie recovered in 40 minutes [PHOTOS]

At the time the owner was unaware it had been stolen.

A STOLEN bakkie was recovered in less than an hour without the owner being aware it had been taken on Tuesday, 13 January.

At the time of the incident, Doonside resident, Riaan Esterhuizen was conducting business at the Department of Home Affairs in Prospecton.

“I got there just before 2pm and as I was about to walk out the door, I received a phone call from Isipingo police informing me that my Toyota Hilux had been recovered in the Midlands. When I looked to where I had parked, my bakkie was no longer there.”

The bakkie had been stolen while Riaan had been busy inside. “I noticed posters inside the building warning people to be careful where they park because of theft. But where else is one meant to park.”
At the time police had been searching for a Ford when they came across Riaan’s bakkie. The dashboard had been stripped and the bonnet and door had been damaged.

Currently the vehicle has been impounded. Riaan expects to get it back this week and only then will his insurance company be able to assess the cost of the damage.
He issues a warning to people to be careful when parking outside home affairs.
