CCPO swoops on burglars

We hope these arrests will assist in bringing crime down in those areas

A number of housebreakers were arrested by the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) in Toti this week.

Thieves who broke into a house in Anna Scheepers Road in Doonheights on Wednesday, 15 April were surprised by the quick response of the CCPO.

According to operations manager, Leon Joone, two men were arrested as they attempted to flee the scene. “CCPO’s Rupert Smit and Wilson Ngcobo managed to stop and detain the men, who were handed over to Toti SAPS,” he said.

Later that day a CCPO foot patrol guard reported that a housebreaking had taken place in a Cato Crescent complex and the thieves had fled into surrounding bush. Their description was given and not long after that they were seen walking in Horseshoe Road by George Snodey.

He attempted to apprehend one of the men, who fled, but the timely arrival of Smit and Ngcobo resulted in one of the thieves’ detainment. His accomplice was arrested by the owner of the property that was broken into and handed over to Toti SAPS. “We hope these good arrests will assist in bringing crime down in those areas,” said Leon.
