eThekwini’s rubbish bags found to be trash

eThekwini Municipality said it is working closely with all stakeholders to fast-track the tender process and ensure that supply is restored as soon as possible.

ETHEKWINI Municipality has warned residents of a temporary shortage of black refuse bags in some areas after test samples that were sent to the South African Bureau of Standards failed to meet the approved quality standards.

eThekwini provides black refuse bags for domestic waste, delivered every three months, while blue bags are for garden refuse.

In a statement, the municipality said it is working closely with all stakeholders to fast-track the tender process and ensure that supply is restored as soon as possible.

“In the interim, the City encourages residents to continue practising responsible waste management, including avoiding littering and illegal dumping. Collective efforts play a vital role in keeping eThekwini clean, safe, and sustainable. [We] apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank residents for their patience and co-operation during this period,” it said.
