Warner Beach South Neighbourhood Watch’s spokesperson, Karin MacRae, said the camera project aimed to combat and prevent crime.
“We have neighbourhood members who do night patrols, driving around for a few hours per night, as well as ladies doing camera surveillance. This is all done voluntarily,” said Karin.
While about 300 children were anticipated to take part in the walk, Karin said more than 400 turned up with their parents and guardians, bringing the total number of people who participated to around 650.
“Homeowners in Gus Brown and Harcombe roads hosted sweetie tables at their gates and they decorated their homes and gates. Children paid R40 per ticket to walk the allocated route collecting sweets from all the tables,” she said.
There was also a Father Christmas, his elves and the Grinch to entertain the children. Karin said the event went well without any incident and it was a perfect night out for the whole family.
