This particular SPCA has operated in Amanzimtoti for over three decades, initially operating in Warner Beach before moving its premises to Nyati Road in 1990, where the NPO still operates today.

The SUN often works with the Amanzimtoti SPCA for ‘Pet of the Week’, which shines a spotlight on pets the NPO aims to re-home.

The organisation is committed to educating underprivileged, rural areas and previously disadvantaged communities, offering education on animal care, vaccinations and the importance of sterilisation, among others. When possible, the roving mobile clinics supply animal food for needy animals as well. Every year, around 2500 animals are treated.

Every  day the SPCA deals with lost, found, unwanted, confiscated and abused animals. Its inspectors respond to emergency calls of animal cruelty and investigates reports of animal abuse or neglect, and rescues animals when the need arises.
