EDITOR – My closing argument on the Easter egg lament and the huge threat they present to Trevor Barnes and his few aficionadas and aficionados.
I was reluctant respond to his letter published in last week’s Sun, but my curiosity got the better of me.
In his letter addressed to you, the editor, he suggested in an instructive manner that you read Corinthians 3:19. Did you? Aside from wondering whether you follow the readership’s recommendations, I am also snoopy to know why the Corinthians did not respond to St Paul’s letter.
Not every religion has the Bible as a life’s guidance manual. It is however Trevor’s Holy Scriptures that almost succeeded in preventing me from responding to his multi-themed letter. In Proverbs 26:4-5 (NIV) we are advised as follows: “Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you yourself will be just like him. Answer a fool according to his folly, or he will be wise in his own eyes.”
Far be it from my disposition to label anyone a fool, but I did not want to misquote the holy book. Alike to Marie Bowker’s good intention I do accept Trevor does not want to lead us up the garden path and that understandably he actually believes he is imparting wisdom. Barnes should realise his rhetoric could be offensive to people of other faiths. Speculation on what church leaders would say about the Easter egg plot against the Passover celebrations makes me nosey as well. It should be enlightening to know what men of the cloth would have to say about the sweet treat that creates so many chocolate encircled smiles annually.
Finally let us all ponder on the words of Kahlil Gibran: “Say not, I have found the truth, but rather, I have found a truth.”
