Sign up for a swing in South Coast Classic

The annual spring treatment will take place on Monday, 30 September and carry on through to Friday, 4 October.

AMANZIMTOTI Golf Club calls on all golfers to get their entries in for the Amanzimtoti Country Club and Conservancy 'South Coast Classic' golf day, which takes place on Sunday, 29 September.

The cost is R150 per player and there will be great prizes up for grabs, as well as the promise of a highly enjoyable day out on the course.

Contact the pro shop on 031-902-1166 to book your tee off time, and it would be superb to see fellow South Coast clubs turn out to support Toti much as they support their golf days.

The annual spring treatment will take place on Monday, 30 September and carry on through to Friday, 4 October. This will be followed by the monthly medal on that Saturday, which should make for interesting golfing. The spring treatment is a very necessary evil though, as it will ensure the greens are in good nick for the year ahead.

The South Coast Region Women Golf Association’s annual Lewis Reynolds Trophy was played at Scottburgh on Sunday, and won in fine style by the Umkomaas team. Toti's own Colleen Smit and Gerda Heydenrych were counted out of second position for the best betterball score. The two Toti teams managed 80 and 78 points combined respectively, while the winners finished with a good few more points than that.

On a sad note the club reports on the death of woman member Gerry Girven, who had been battling serious illness for the past few months. Gerry was a wonderfully cheerful and friendly person and she will be sorely missed by all her friends at Amanzimtoti and down the South Coast.

Results from the week: Wednesday’s IPS was contested by 30 players and won by Mike Lawrence on 40 points, from D Blount on 39, while B Stephen took third place on 37 points. The Friday Sundowner only attracted 19 players, which probably wasn’t a bad thing given that there was a sponsored day running concurrently. Winner of the meat was Ulrick Gouws on 23 points, with Kiran Kissoon in second place on 22 points.

On Saturday the men played 4BBB bonus bogey, with a rather small field of 67 players. Winning on a superb score of +14 was Frans Klopper and Ernie Crots, followed by Gerry Motley and Steve Conlan one point adrift on +13, and Alan Brydon and Clive Fryer took third spot on +11. Nearest the pins were John van der Spuy (seventh) and CJ van Oudtshoorn (17th). The jackpot was unclaimed, and Matthew Hamer won the attendance prize.

The women played 4BBB, and showing their class and winning by a country mile were Lynette Roodt and Ina de Boer on 44 points, followed by Gerda Heydenrych and Gill Symons on 41 points. Gill Symons took nearest the pin on the 17th and also picked up a two-club on the seventh.

Note that on Thursday, 26 September the women's section hosts their annual women's open day, starting from 8.30am. As this event will have a shotgun start, the course will not be open in the morning, but golfers may still call in and book a tee off time for the afternoon.
