New Wednesday winner at UGC
With the weather being very dodgy on Friday night with pouring rain, the likelihood of golf on Saturday didn't look good at all.

IT was good to see Garth Mulroy back on the European Tour once again, playing in the 70 degrees Open D'Italia Lindt Tournament in Turin, Italy the past weekend.
He did well to make the cut and hung in to shoot a final score of -1 in T53rd place. Also playing in the Italian Open was Retief Goosen. He finished on +1 in T66th place.
There was a 'new-ish' face in the form of Mike Cromhout, winning the Wednesday competition. It's not often we see Mike midweek but he romped in with 42 points to take home the first prize, with Peter Boshoff taking the second spot on 40 points. Andy Davidge was right behind Peter in third place with 39 points.
With the weather being very dodgy on Friday night with pouring rain, the likelihood of golf on Saturday didn't look good at all. Fortunately, the course had a good soaking and it turned out to be a perfect day for golf, although pretty soggy and heavy going most of the time. Visitors, Tony and Lindsay and Tyler Naidoo, playing with granddad Moonsamy Nelson, were warmly welcomed to the competition which was a 4BBB stableford with two scores to count.
Winners were Tom Naicker and Kuben Naidoo on 50 very good points, followed by the women, Michelle van der Merwe and Leigh Beckerling in second spot on 47 points. Well done, girls. Taking the third prize were Eric Morsner and Keith Vergottini on 45 points, counting out Brian Daventry-Bull and Ricky Towell, also on 45 points. The jackpot was won by Sue Boshoff with 10 points and the hidden birdie has been won at last but shared between Ricky Towell and Kuben Naidoo, both getting their birdies on the 16th hole. Moonsamy Nelson took home the attendance draw.
The 'Tombstone' tournament was played on Tuesday, 24 September on National Braai Day (or Heritage Day if you don't like braaing), the results of which will be published next week.
Next Saturday's competition is the fourball alliance which is always popular with the players, with social golf on Sunday. Call the office on 039-973-1042 or the golf shop on 039-973-1330 to book a time.
Six-pin should be back to normal on Friday afternoon with a braai of some sort for hungry players afterwards. This, of course, is dependant on the weather forecast. Annette G will send out emails if this arrangement changes.
UGC wishes a speedy recovery to former 'starter' Johnny Coetzee and wife, Jackie good health, as well as Bruna Scarpa or any member not feeling well at the moment.
